Overview[edit]

ALEKS (Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces) is an online, adaptive artificial intelligence engine that can teach you math from K-12 and through college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and statistics, with courses that have been ACE-recommended for college credit. It works by the following method:

  1. Asks you a type of problem, e.g. "solving quadratics by factoring."
  2. If you get the problem wrong, it thoroughly explains that specific problem and the strategies used to solve it, and then asks you another problem of the same type.
  3. Once you get several right in a row, it adds that problem as a "learned topic" to your progress chart and then asks you another question, e.g. "solving quadratics by completing the square."
  4. Repeat until complete.

Why is ALEKS important?[edit]

  1. It is accepted as direct credit for math coursework by Excelsior College and TESU. For TESU, ALEKS trigonometry fulfills your precalculus requirement for a business degree.
  2. You only need to reach 70% to pass -- you don't need to take a whole course, just reach 70% on a periodic assessment test and you are done.
  3. It only costs $20 per month -- much cheaper than even a CLEP test.
