WGU Academy

From Degree Forum Wiki

Basic information[edit]

WGU Academy is a program run by Western Governor's University. For a monthly fee of $150, you can take a number of StraighterLine courses for credit. Students are required to take the 0-credit orientation and PACA courses (see below). English Composition I is also required but may be transferred in from another institution. You may take as many courses as you like, so long as you continue to pay the monthly fee. This is unlike Study.com that has a limit of 5 courses/exams in a given month.

WGU requires regular check-ins by telephone with their advisors.

Available Courses[edit]

  • English Composition I
  • Communications
  • United States History
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Introduction to Statistics
  • Introduction to Biology
  • General Chemistry I
  • American Government
  • Psychology

  • Precalculus - This may be taken if you intend to attend WGU but does not transfer to another institution.

Essential Course Information[edit]

Note: WGU Academy will only provide vouchers to cover the cost of one computer certification exam. For instance, if you wish to attempt both the COMPTIA A+ certification and one of the MTA exams then you would have to cover the cost of one of those out of your own pocket.

Students may attempt any courses, in any order, at any time. You do not need to finish psychology to start on chemistry, for instance.

PACA[edit]

This is a 0-credit course that must be completed. It takes 4 weeks to complete and cannot be accelerated.

Program for Academic and Career Advancement

PACA101

The PACA course helps students develop vital skills for academic success that can also translate to achievement in their career. Focusing on building self-reflective awareness, students examine how their own behaviors and mindsets influence their ability to attain their goals. Utilizing the skills and strategies learned over multiple online sessions, students will create a plan of action that will help them to move forward on their student journey with confidence and persistence.
